There is a point in every criminal’s life where he first lost his belief in himself as a decent and honourable person. Because the moment a man loses that pride of goodness and sense of honour, Mr. Hubbard said, “it doesn’t matter what he does to anyone, including himself.”
Research and experience has shown us that all criminality begins first with the loss of self-respect and personal integrity. All other observable problems, such as drug abuse and immorality, are simply symptoms that come about after the individual has lost his self-respect and personal integrity. Only then does he become a threat to society.
So the first and most vital reform action must be the restoration of self-respect and personal integrity. Each individual can be brought to realize that he is basically a good person, and that there is hope for the future. Unless this occurs, support services that include housing and jobs are not enough to break the cycle of recidivism.
The end result of the Criminon Program is a person who is empowered to produce, to be effective and to contribute to society instead of being a drain on it.
Originally established in New Zealand in 1972, Criminon now has non-profit chapters in 30 countries. Over 16,000 participate weekly in the Criminon Program worldwide.
Criminon Edmonton is a non-profit corporation registered in Alberta, Canada. Our volunteers currently help more than 100 inmate students. We give free in-prison information sessions or workshops on the Criminon Program.
We endeavour to suit our program to each prison’s unique environment. Please contact us with your ideas or requirements for your facility.
